The adrenal glands rest just above the kidneys. These glands secrete cortisol, and stimulate our bodies to produce progesterone and testosterone, among other hormones. Adrenal fatigue occurs when the adrenal glands function below normal levels. Stress can cause adrenal fatigue. There are a variety of supplements, including vitamins, minerals and hormones recommended to ease adrenal fatigue. Information about supplements and recommendations cited are from James Balch, M.D., author of Prescription for Natural Healing, Avery, New York: 2000.

Adrenal fatigue can have any of a number of symptoms. Signs to watch for include but are not limited to increased cravings for salt, heightened PMS, depleted energy and lessened sex drive.

The benefits of Desiccated Glandular Tissue include fat loss, muscle building, better digestion, and other improvements often taken for granted. Glandular therapy “works” because it is said to increase the tone, function, and/or activity of the corresponding gland, which in turn benefits the entire human system.

Our glandulars are concentrates (not extracts) and are derived from New Zealand range-grazed bovine. The grasslands are non-fertilized and the animals are not administered feed supplements, hormones or antibiotics. In New Zealand, animals that have been treated with growth hormones are always marked and processed separately from non-treated animals, ensuring that organic sources are never mixed in with non-organic. The glands are quick frozen, never exceeding -5C. Their cellular structure is not damaged and is preserved in a biologically active and live state. Source materials are not subjected to organic or aqueous solvents and therefore no chlorohydrocarbon remain as residue in the tissues.

The rise of antibiotics has contributed to the decline of pharmaceutical glandular therapy research. However, just because the glandular approach is no longer popular for these clinical studies does not invalidate the usefulness of the approach or diminish the validity of its therapeutic value. In fact, while it is considered Alternative Medicine (which is not generally recognized as effective by the medical community at large) in the United States, glandular therapy is one of India’s largest branches of Ayurvedic Medicine (a 2,000 year old system of medicine based on a holistic approach).

The extracts, once taken from the animals used, are known clinically as protomorphogens. They provide immediate as well as long-term benefits. Glandular therapy is useful if a patient’s endocrine system is under-producing or under-secreting a specific hormone. It can also be used when an organ is weak or diseased–for example, such is often the case with cancer patients. Because glandular therapy is generally effective for those diagnosed with a terminal illness, it is also recommended for preventative measures. Another principle behind the benefit of glandular therapy is that glandular tissues are rich in many nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, amino acids, fatty acids, polypeptides, enzymes, and many other substances, and this is another reason why they work. The tissues work with all other products and foods you ingest. In this sense, glandular therapy can supply your missing essential nutritional needs in a highly efficient manner. For a tissue cell to repair or replace itself, it must have the raw materials to do so. Glandular therapy provides these raw materials to your weakened organs, glands, and other tissues so that they can start the process of regeneration.

We have also supported our glandular with calcium ascorbate, this is vitamin C buffered with calcium. Stress and anxiety affect the adrenals. When this happens, vitamin C and calcium act like shock absorbers. In both stress and anxiety, urinary calcium has been found to increase, meaning that the calcium in the body is decreasing. Because calcium stores deplete when stress hits, it is important to provide an extra buffer.

Gotu kola is also in this formulation. It has a significant history in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine as a treatment for anxiety and depression. In one trial, 40 people were split into two groups, one receiving 12g gotu kola, and the other receiving placebo, to determine the effect on anxiety. The gotu kola significantly decreased anxiety within 30-60 minutes when compared to placebo.

In conclusion, if stimulated even slightly, many of the healthy hormones found in our glandular tissues can begin their genetic tasks as they did before. For example, a small polypeptide material present in one tissue can have selective effects in encouraging another tissue at a different site in the body to produce hormonal materials, which then may affect a final target tissue and change its physiological function. This domino effect can happen only if target-specific polypeptides from specific organs are present. Life Choice works meticulously to ensure that our products will produce these desired results.
